Online marketers with information products often seek ways to get in touch with prospective buyers. One effective technique that writers rarely consider is writing guest posts for other people’s blogs.

This technique allow you to:

– Demonstrate your expertise;

– Retain a permanent position on the blog (as long as the blog exists)

– Increase your page rank in Google (if the post gets indexed)

Here’s how it works.

– Find a blog that reaches your target market. The blog doesn’t have to be exactly targeted to your market. For instance, if you wrote an ebook about dogs who chew, you can target blogs related to dogs. You might even be able to post in blogs related to pets in general or even home and family topics.

– Choose a blog that’s been around awhile. Although millions of blogs enter the Internet scene daily, most are maintained just a few months. And, of course, not all blogs allow guest posts.

– Look in the “About” section and the menu to see if the blog’s owner has made a provision for guests to write posts.. If so, you can communicate with the owner, explaining your interest. If not, look through the blog to see if you can find posts written by anyone besides the blog’s owner.

Even if you find no hint of guest posts, don’t give up, if the blog has been around and seems particularly well suited to your target market.

– Read through previous blog posts to get a sense of the owner’s style, values and philosophies.

– Choose a particular post you liked. Think about why you liked it.

– Write a comment on a current post: a post the owner made that very day or just the day before.

– Send the blog owner a note. Refer to your comment on the blog post. Consider including a download link to your info product.

– Don’t offer to write a guest post unless the blog specifically indicates that they accept guest posts. Just send the note. Often the owner will take the initiative, offering you an invitation for a guest post.
